For us, responsible use of public funds means that
software must be accessible and freely available – publicplan thinks and acts according to this credo. This approach promotes further
development and stands for
participation. Based on this understanding, publicplan has committed itself to the
idea of open source software.
This idea is inherent in all the
services we offer. We
only compare open source products right from the consulting and design stage. The next step is the individualized development and expansion of the open source software together with our customers for a
tailor-made innovative solution.
A large community of developers is involved in open source programs, which means that errors are reliably detected and, above all, quickly rectified. This offers high added value, especially in terms of maintenance and support. The community also ensures IT standards.
One of publicplan's priorities is to promote
digital sovereignty. We support customers “on the job” with training and knowledge transfer: we
provide insight into their open source projects so that they can understand and adapt them. Our experts are also available for comprehensive maintenance and community management after implementation and
beyond regular maintenance.

Open Source Events
Community events focus on the exchange and development plans of the participants. Thanks to sponsors such as publicplan GmbH, community members can network worldwide. We also support project-independent events such as
Offene Kommunen.NRW. In addition to technical exchange, we promote intellectual exchange, for example through our
meetups in the Dusseldorf area. One highlight is our annual 'Anwendertag', which has been bringing the benefits of
open source closer to public authority representatives since 2016 and offering a platform for sharing experiences and networking.

Contributions and Foundations
publicplan GmbH is involved in numerous
open source projects, including one of the largest in the world: the
Drupal community. With over 1 million members, we have been supporting Drupal for years as a
premium sponsor and active contributor. Developments and bug fixes from customer work always flow back into the open source projects. The purchase of
enterprise editions for project support is also part of our philosophy.
We offer all our in-house developments and products exclusively under
free open source licenses. A milestone in our commitment is the
co-founding of the
OK Lab in Dusseldorf, part of the Code for Germany initiative. Since 2014, participants have been working together to develop solutions for open knowledge and democratic participation based on open data. As an active member of organizations such as the
Open Source Business Alliance and the
Free Software Foundation Europe, we regularly contribute our knowledge and experience to discussions and planning.
Driver for Public Code Repositories
We are convinced that code for public administration should be publicly accessible on a central platform. That's why we promote public code repositories that provide transparency and facilitate cross-agency collaboration and software development.our collection of code repositories, custom developments and plugins.
